Sonographers writing and publishing

About Sonographers Writing and Publication

We are a global community forum that works to support Sonographers with the writing and publication process. Working with the Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) and the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS), we hope to pool ideas and resources to help reduce the barriers around the writing and publication process and offer support from a team of experts in their field.

SWaP Key Priorities

01.

Common issues community forum

A community based forum where people can bring forward issues they might be experiencing. Professionals can share ideas and discuss the best ways of navigating these issues in a supportive environment.

02.

Discussion forum

A forum for everyone in the group to discuss ideas and seek advice.

03.

Research ideas

A place to discuss research ideas with others and get advice. We will aim to help with funding and grants where possible, linking cases to possible grant sources and offer guidance on how to approach funding applications.

04.

Interesting cases forum

A place for people to bring forward Interesting cases they would like to write up from all specialties. We will try and link each case to a team member who can provide the best insight into how to take these ideas forward and provide guidance on what journals might be most suitable for these cases. Note* images should not be shared unless anonymised and the patient has given consent.

05.

Research publishing

Advice and discussion on how to get work published. Where possible we will link the most appropriate team member to an idea to try and offer help and guidance as to where to take the work and how to proceed.

06.

Imaging specialties and their professional expert

We have the support of esteemed sonographer colleagues who have the appropriate experience that provide great skill and success to those within the ultrasound community. The individual specialty threads aim to allow sonographers with shared interests to work together and support co-production of work.

SWaP Mission Statement

Sonographers make up the majority of the ultrasound scanning workforce in today’s healthcare systems, yet up until now we appear to have the quietest voices in the world of publications relating to ultrasound practice. To promote the great work undertaken by the sonographic profession we believe that we should utilise our experiences, share our ideas and publish more of our own research. The founders want this group to become a supportive and productive space where questions can be asked and answers/advice can be provided. We want to make a safe place that can dispel these fears, openly discuss ideas and coordinate responses that might help, we want to help open the door to journals and publications by supporting people in their ideas, helping them find the right journal for their work and streamlining ideas. We would like to work with opinion pieces, interesting cases, research ideas, and host open discussions regarding common problem areas. The overriding hope is that a community of dedicated professionals can help and assist one another along with feedback and support. Wherever possible we will aim to work with the support of professional bodies such as SCoR and BMUS where support for seeking funding may be sought. We hope that this group encourages the work achieved and produced by Sonographers in an environment that stimulates and supports everyone. If you have any questions, please message Ruth or Stephen and we will do our best to answer these.
